Catalogue Entry

Cooking rice balls over a small stove on the street, the Hawker cries out "rice balls, rice balls" to attract customers.

Shiwan ceramic sculptures encapsulate a spectrum of emotions that remain unmatched by other kiln. Immortals look stern, soldiers appear courageous, poets are deep in thought and heroines radiate with charm. Some sculpters balance exaggerated facial expressions with simplified forms. Facial features and limbs come alive through the eyes of Shiwan figurine artists.
