Catalogue Entry
The Cash Register is an iconic relic that reflects the commodification of Chinese labour during the early to mid-twentieth century. Chinese laundry, tailors, grocers and restaraunts were the main businesses endeavors owned and operated by Chinese Canadians. The Cash Register is a symbol that brings to light the relentless labour that occupied each work day - 7 days a week, 15 hours a day.
